Vertō Group is a faith-based, interdenominational organisation registered as a Public Benefit Organisation and an approved section 18A Trust in South Africa that oversees a diversified portfolio of projects in South Africa and Lesotho.
The main goal is to build (in phases) and operate a unique, eco-friendly, financially self-sustainable, 120-bed district-level training hospital in Semonkong, Lesotho. The Semonkong Hospital Trust is preparing to implement a labour intensive and gender equality construction model which will stimulate the local economy by creating substantial employment opportunities for men and women from the local communities and supporting local businesses, thereby building local capacity. The hospital will be staffed by dedicated, skilled health professionals and support staff.
The Group has developed additional divisions (projects) that underpin its holistic approach to community development and upliftment of lifestyles and living standards of the poor and marginalised.
The Vertō Agricultural division is running a number of agricultural programmes and conducting research that results in improved crop cultivation techniques in the Semonkong area.
Vertō Veterinary has been running a mobile clinic in the Semonkong area since 2006. The number of animals treated (vaccinated, dewormed, sterilised, treated for saddle sores, parasites, ticks etc.) have increased from 3000 animals in 2008 to 12,000 animals in 2022. Consequently, there has been a substantial improvement in animal health in the Semonkong area.

Vertō Go is the outreach division of the group that sends teams on an ad hoc basis to provide a support function to the various projects.
The Group has developed a business model, Vertō business, which will guide its transition in the medium to long term from a donor dependent model to a financially self-supporting model. The financial model consists of a diversified funding base to ensure the longevity of the hospital and related projects. Future financial needs will therefore be met through earned money. This will ensure the financial independence and sustainability of the new hospital into the foreseeable future.
